Merits

  • The University of Kerala has approved the department as a research centre. Four of the faculty members have been approved as Research supervisors for Ph.D programme under the University of Kerala.
  • Research projects of the research scholars are presently under various stages of progress.
  • The department has shown steady progress during the past five years quantitatively and qualitatively.
  • Two faculty members acquired Ph. D. under QIP from IITs, Five faculty members have acquired M. Tech under QIP from IITs
  • Two members acquired M. Tech from the institution under Part time programme. One faculty member acquired Ph. D. from University of Kerala.
  • Two faculty members are undergoing M. Tech under QIP at IIT, Three members are doing Ph. D under QIP at IITs and Four faculty members are doing Ph.D by research on part-time basis.
  • The AICTE and University of Kerala had granted approval to start a new post graduate course in "Computer Integrated Manufacturing".
  • Most of the teachers have been deputed for short-term courses.
  • Our students have been maintaining top ranks among the colleges under the University of Kerala.
  • A good percentage of the outgoing students are placed in very good establishments before they leave the campus through the Training and placement centre.
  • Most of the students are well placed
  • The department maintain very high results in the examinations.
  • The department have successfully completed projects under TAPTEC and MODROB.
  • New proposals have been given under the above schemes.
  • The CAD/CAM centre has been developed with new commercial software.
  • The students and faculty members have attended seminars and symposia.
  • Faculty members have published a number of papers in refereed journals.
  • Facilities have been improved and a new block of building has been added. A new seminar room is also built with all modern facilities.
  • Proposal has been approved by the AICTE and University of Kerala for starting a new M. Tech course in Computer Integrated Manufacturing and awaiting for sanction by the Govt. of Kerala.
  • Training and Placement cell of the institution has been working under the supervision of a Professor from the department.
  • National Level Technical Symposium for Engineering students (MEXSYM) is being conducted by the department every year.
  • Auto Show 2001 was another event organised by the department successfully exposing the students to the recent developments in the Automobile industry.
  • Prof.K.Balachandra Sarma has been nominated as the Dean (Faculty of Engineering and Technology), University of Kerala.

Continuing Education Programmes

Department has organised summer/winter schools for faculty members of engineering
with ISTE aid.

Patent Rights

A device for "In - Process monitoring of surface finish in Manufacturing" applied
through CSIR, IIT Madras with the following Ref.No.500:94:238, Pat:KSB:914.

EDP Programme

Our faculty members have given guest lectures for EDP and also very actively
participating in such programmes.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMMES CONDUCTED IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS

i. Extension programmes including training programmes for engineers in industries.

A training programme on "Assembling and Testing of window Air conditioners"
was organised for engineers from KEL, Kundara, by the Department.

ii. Staff development programmes for teachers of other Institutions

An ISTE summer school on "Contributions to Technology Development from
Space Research" had been conducted in collaboration with VSSC, Trivandrum.

New proposals for summer/winter schools have been submitted to ISTE this year

iii. Department's contribution to curriculum development.

Faculty members of the Department participated in the curriculum development committee of the University of Kerala for preparing the scheme and syllabus of the course.

The Department involved in the preparation of the revised syllabi for B.Tech-Mechanical, Production, Industrial and Automobile engineering from 1998 admissions onwards under University of Kerala.

Syllabus revision is going on for 2003 admissions onwards for B.Tech Mechanical, Production, Industrial and Automobile Engg. under University of Kerala.
