The department started functioning in the year 1984 with an under graduate programme in Computer Science & Engineering with an intake of 15 students. But in due course the intake was increased to 50. The department has been regularly producing efficient and outstanding professionals in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. Almost all students are getting placement during their pre-final year itself. Most of the Alumni of the department are of high calibre, who have reached positions of eminence in academic and research institutions, industries, business all over the world.

Qualified and competent faculty and skilled supporting staff are the strength of the department. The majority of the faculty attained PG and Doctorate from reputed institutions. The faculty have specialisations in Networks, Image Processing, Cryptography, Computational Geometry and other emerging fields. The staff of the department have been members of different academic bodies of Kerala University.

To meet the growing demands of the fast changing scenario in the field of Computer Science and IT , the department has been continously extending its development activities to offer high standard of quality in teaching. The department has taken initiative to prepare scheme and syllabus for the B-Tech Degree in IT under Kerala University.

The department has a good library with a reading room. The library is a kid with a good number of text books, reference books and journals in the field of Computer Science and IT. Reference and borrowing facilities are provided for staff and students. In addition to the facilities available in the department library access to the central library is also provided.

The department has well-equipped laboratories with modern computer facilites. All computers are connected to a LAN environment which supports all available Operating Systems. The department LAN has facility to access the online ACM journals available with the central library.
